Fig is a flowering plant cultivated in many regions across the world with numerous health benefits. The scientific name of fig is Ficus Carica. It belongs to Mulberry family. It is believed that this fruit belongs to Middle East and Eastern Asia but now it is cultivated throughout the world. In India this delicious fruit is grown in almost all states in a larger scale such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Near about 800 varieties of figs are cultivated throughout the world.

Fig has lot of health benefits such as it prevents sexual dysfunction, stomach upset, constipation, diabetes, piles, bronchitis, cough, and asthma. It is suggested that those who lose weight because of illness, regular consumption of fig can help them to get quick recovery and gaining weight.

Due to the presence of minerals, fiber and vitamins in fig, they are very healthy for our body. Fig contains Vitamin A, calcium, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, phosphorus, iron, sodium, manganese, chlorine and potassium.

Figs are very rich in Vitamins, Minerals and nutrients. Some of the vitamins that fig contains are Folates, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Pyridoxine, Riboflavin, Thiamin, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K and minerals like Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Selenium and zinc. It also has Sodium and Potassium. Apart for this fig also have some phyto-nutrients such as carotene and lutein-zeaxanthin.
